The season of making
memories is upon us
T
he most festive season of the year is upon us! We welcome it each year with days
of remembrance and thankfulness, and gatherings of family and friends. For some,
it is a time for an outpouring of gratitude to God for what He does in our lives, and a
time of celebration for the coming of His Son into the world. For others it is a time to
celebrate each other with a festive meal and the giving of gifts. All in all, it is time in
which a certain magic occupies our lives and lifts us from the mundane to excitement and
anticipation.
In this issue of “Home for the Holidays,” we have taken up the theme of making
memories. More than half of life is a reflection on the past and a projection of hope for
the future, and done together, we can create powerful memories that will last for days and
even years to come.
The centerpiece of these memories is the anticipation of bringing the family together
to share, to fellowship, and to commune together. Often there is food involved. The
preparation of those holiday meals frames a part of the tradition of both Thanksgiving
and Christmas.
Besides the traditional meal at Thanksgiving, we, like our American ancestors, reflect on
the past year and perhaps on our entire lives and remember with gratitude and thanks.
Memories are made and shared.
At Christmas we remember the Baby Jesus and God’s gift to us; and so we celebrate by
decorating with beauty and light and give gifts to one another. There is a certain magic in
the air, and a certain joy in our spirit.
Finally, we finish the festive season by celebrating the coming of the New Year, a time
for joy and forgiveness, fellowship and friendship.
The staff at Lincoln Daily News wishes you a safe and “Happy Holiday” season. Come,
let’s make memories together!
