W
e often pick up the pace at this
festive time of year with guilt-
ridden, compressed, seasonal schedules.
Add to that, lists on our phone or
reminders on scraps of paper in our pocket
or purse. We eventually reach a point of
seeing our lists are many and the hours too
few to get it all done.
It’s enough to make you want to hiss! We
can call it the Holiday Insanity Stress
Syndrome, or H.I.S.S. for short.
To sort it all out and make sense of what’s
to remain “the most wonderful time of the
year,” let us consider HIS answer.
Our Lord Jesus did not want to leave us
comfortless, without a teacher, companion/
helper, or guide. In fact, it was His final
instruction to us all before His ascension
into Heaven. Jesus had breathed on His
disciples and said, “Receive the Holy
Spirit,” then commanded them to stay in
Jerusalem until they were filled with Him
and His power.
The same Spirit that brooded over creation
in the beginning and hung a star in the
East to direct the wisest toward the Christ
Child can still direct each of us today. The
lost find new direction, the discouraged
lift their eyes, and the broken are mended,
having faith restored, as they follow their
“worship guide,” the Holy Spirit.
He, the “Spirit of Truth” will not mislead
you, but guide you into all Truth. He
will not speak of Himself, but whatever
He hears of the Father and Son, He will
share with you. What a Comfort! What a
Guide!
Beyond a time and a place we remember
at Christmas, we come to worship a
Person, the Lord Jesus our Christ! Led by
our worship guide, beyond Bethlehem of
long ago, we come to the very Person and
Presence of our God in heaven. The HISS
is displaced by HIS Presence! We find
access beyond the veil into His Most Holy
Place as we worship in Spirit and Truth.
Let’s remind one another, throughout the
year, that the Spirit and the Bride say,
“Come!”
