The next table had fresh pig lungs that the
students used to explain the difference between
healthy and smoking tar diseased lungs.
And then students were led in jumping rope for
fitness.
At the far end of the gym, additional physical
activities were encouraged using a fun game of
cards.
In their classrooms, students learned more about
how good nutrition prevents disease and helps
them concentrate and do well in school too. They
looked at nutritional guidelines and enjoyed
some yogurt. They talked about living a healthy
lifestyle, which included physical activity, the
effects tobacco products, being sun smart and
other ways to prevent cancer.
They also received take-home information for
parents and families.
Outside on the track, Relay Recess laps began at
2 p.m. with the kindergarteners being the first to
walk the track.
Recess Relay activities are designed to be fun and
to reinforce lessons. The lessons and activities
prepare the students to become better equipped
to live a healthier lifestyle. The student led
leadership roles, activities and fundraising also
brought the student body closer together in the
unified fight on cancer.
