possible send my counter-response to your Sept. 19 critique of my
essay titled "Did Mr. Lincoln Practice Law in the Christian Church
of Lincoln, Illinois?"
I was displeased to see you found reason to say shame on me and
to suggest I am biased, so I have responded with explanations that I
hope will help you better understand why I included the passages you
faulted and why I choose to retain them.
By cc'ing your critique to members of the central Illinois press,
you seek a very public audience. Accordingly, I have posted your
critique and my counter-response below my essay on the churches page
