Page 200 Lincoln Daily News 2026 Logan County Fair August 2026 4-H Beef Show at the Logan County Fair The annual 4-H Beef Show was held at the Logan County Fair on Thursday, August 6th. This show allows participants to present their cattle for judging. The show started with the steers before moving on to the heifers, and ended with three classes of showmanship: junior, intermediate, and senior. This year’s judge was Preston Rhode. Rhode grew up raising cattle on a farm in Central Illinois. He also shows pigs at various competitions. Rhode received a bachelor’s degree in animal science at Oklahoma State University, and is pursuing a Master’s degree from the University of Illinois. As competitors showed their animals, Rhode would take time examining them. He viewed them from a distance and up close. He would then explain why he chose each winner. Rhode would describe what he liked about each animal and provide constructive feedback on what could be improved. Miss Logan County Fair, Grace Carter, arrived near the start of the show to hand out ribbons and banners to the winners of each class and category. Carter stayed for the duration of the event.
