In winter, some facilities pay premiums for grain delivered directly, giving on-farm storage a slight edge over elevator storage. Larger bins usually cost less per bushel because the expenses of preparing the bin and operating the equipment are spread across more volume. A standard 30,000-bushel bin installed on a concrete pad and equipped with aeration, a sweep auger, and an electrical setup can cost between $65,000 and $90,000.
