Jordan Zimmer of Delavan had the grand champion
yellow corn this year.
Pat LaForge, of New Holland, took the grand
champion arrangement of the Tuesday show with her
floral tribute to our service members.
Flowers and vegetables brought in for competition on Monday were holding up quite well on Thursday evening
when these photos were taken.
This year’s growing season was not only short on water, with parts of Logan County receiving little to no
measurable rain in July, but also challenged by record heat, as it was the second-warmest July on record in
Illinois.
According to the National Weather Service, Lincoln tied the 19th-warmest July on record with a mean
temperature of 79.5 degrees. There were 21 days in the 90-degree range, with 30 days being the record in 1916
and 12 days being the average. Records for Lincoln have been kept since 1906.
