Letters to the Editor

Lincoln Daily News welcomes letters of appreciation, information and opinion on matters pertaining to the community.

Controversial issues:
As a community we need to be able to talk openly about matters that affect the quality of our lives. The most effective and least offensive manner to get your point across is to stick to the issue and refrain from commenting on another person's opinion. Letters that deviate from focusing on the issue may be rejected or edited and marked as such.

In conclusion: Henson replies to Parmenter          Send a link to a friend

Dear Reverend Parmenter,

As I promised, I would as soon as possible send my counter-response to your Sept. 19 critique of my essay titled "Did Mr. Lincoln Practice Law in the Christian Church of Lincoln, Illinois?"

I was displeased to see you found reason to say shame on me and to suggest I am biased, so I have responded with explanations that I hope will help you better understand why I included the passages you faulted and why I choose to retain them.

By cc'ing your critique to members of the central Illinois press, you seek a very public audience. Accordingly, I have posted your critique and my counter-response below my essay on the churches page of my Lincoln community history Web site. You can access this exchange with the link below.

Certainly feel free to let me know if you have further concerns.

Yours truly,
Leigh Henson
