Cut-Out Sugar Cookies
SUBMITTED by Debra Rohrer, LDN Food Editor
“A recipe I’ve used for years and made in many kinds of shapes.”

2 cups margarine, softened
3 cups powdered sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 teaspoons almond extract
5 cups flour
2 teaspoons soda
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
icing
sprinkles

In large mixing bowl, cream together butter, powdered sugar, eggs, vanilla and almond extract. Mix in flour, soda, and cream of tartar. Divide into 2 balls on plastic wrap. Chill dough in refrigerator 2 or 3 hours. Heat oven to 375 degrees. One at a time, divide each ball of dough in half. Roll each half 3/ 16 inch thick on lightly covered floured surface. Cut into desired shapes. Place on several baking sheets covered with parchment paper. Bake until light brown on edge. Leave on baking sheet for a few minutes then gradually pull paper off onto counter top to cool completely. Ice with desired icing and sprinkles.
NOTE: You can use butter in this recipe, but it is harder to work with and you will need to let sit out awhile before rolling dough out on floured surface.
