From the ACS website annual report: “The American Cancer Society invests hundreds of millions of dollars every year to fight cancer on a global scale and has earned the public trust by demonstrating a history of careful and proven financial stewardship for over a century. We raise nearly all of our money through private individual donations, which helps to ensure our independence. We encourage people to look at how effectively we deliver on our mission, in addition to how efficiently we operate. We are deeply committed to reporting to our “shareholders” – the millions of people who support us each year.” In 2024 the American Cancer Society raised $850,000,000. This is how the money was spent: • Warrior Support – 50% • Discovery – 24% • Advocacy – 7% • Management – 4% • Fundraising – 15% The American Cancer Society has invested more that $5.5 Billion in cancer research since 1946. This includes research to hospitals and research facilities in Illinois in the amount of $198.2 million. The American Cancer Society also provides support to 270 health systems, community health centers, community organizations and coalitions, and state health plans in Illinoi in 2025 helping to prevent cancers through evidence-based prevention programs. The Friends and Family Relay for Life Team has been raising awareness for breast cancer and raising money for the American Cancer Society since 2018. Since that time, the team has raised $198,500 for ACS. The money raised by the local team says a lot about our community. Our people are caring individuals who give as they are able in order to show support and help provide services for our local cancer warriors. Whether it be a dollar, a few hundred, or a few thousand dollars, every penny is greatly appreciated by the team, and by the American Cancer Society.
