During and after judging, judges make comments explaining to participants what they did well and how they could improve. Little details can make a difference. Creative writing judge Tristan Sites explain to one entrant, “I like the emotion you are conveying.” Sites asked participants what prompted them to write their stories or poems and told them what stood out to him. Judges look closely at the stitching for sewing entries. Judge Claire Stanfield asks about their favorite part of the project and biggest thing they learned from doing it.
