Page 12 Excellence In Education Lincoln Daily News January 2025 Washington-Monroe Fifth Graders host fourth annual Poetry Slam On November 15, 2024, Guest House Coffee & Pastries in Lincoln hosted fifth graders from Washington-Monroe School for the fourth annual Poetry Slam. Students in Mrs. Snow’s and Mrs. Weaver’s classes presented original works following a threeweek poetry unit. During this time, students read, analyzed, and wrote various styles of poetry in class each day. Near the end of the unit, students chose their favorite poem to refine through the writing process. They revised, edited, and published their works. They practiced reading their poems aloud in preparation for presentation to parents and community members.
