Page 162 Lincoln Daily News 2024 Logan County Fair Jul/Aug 2024 Thursday afternoon was really warm in the sheep barns. The morning had rain and the humidity was very high. But the "cuteness" level was a lot higher. The barn was filled with family and friends who came to see their favorite contestant or just came to check out the fun. Amanda Gray from the Logan County University of Illinois Extension office was the MC for this event and was accompanied by Shelby Heyen and Jayda Allspach as judges. Gray introduced each contestant, and the judges would ask questions and observe how each child handled the animal. Kids were so excited to be in the ring and show off their animals. The animals were so much bigger and it gave an innocence that captures your heart. The PeeWee show had three classes divided by age: the 3 & 4 year olds, the 5 year olds and the 6,7, & 8 year olds. In the 3 & 4 year class there were five entries and Miss Stella Landstrom was the winner. Thursday afternoon PeeWee Showmanship contest at the Logan County Fair Sheep Show In the 5 year olds Maverick Garey took top place. It was very obvious he knew his sheep and his sheep knew him. He had very little problem handling her and she was far larger than any of the others in the show. And in the 6,7 &8 year old class Hank Garey took top honors. After showing their sheep each of the children were treated to TopHat ice cream courtesy of the Coers family. [Karen Castelein]
