2023 LOGAN COUNTY FAIR LINCOLN DAILY NEWS JULY / AUGUST 2022 Page 171 2023 LOGAN COUNTY FAIR Friday, August 04 A word of prayer, Old Glory paraded by a beautiful cowgirl and her horse, and our National Anthem began the night, then the announcer told us all to sit back, relax, and go on a journey with him. Horses, cowgirls, and cowboys alike displayed their skill and technique in the steer wrestling and team roping events. Riders in the team event had three minutes to work together to rope a steer. After several missed opportunities, a team from Missouri got the fastest time. An Illinois rider took the victory in the tie down category with an impressive time of just over 11 seconds. The cowgirl barrel racing was a crowd favorite. Local cowgirl Amy Davenport competed on her 18-year-old horse named Remmy. This is Remmy’s last year of competition and Amy was happy that she got to show him off in her hometown. The crowd went wild for 7-year-old barrel racer Josie Cotton of Maroa. You could feel the excitement as the announcer prepared the crowd for the rowdy bulls and their brave riders. With each attempt the gate flew open, and the rider was bucked from the bull almost immediately. Young fairgoer Julia Collins said she had a great time and that it was nice to see so much community support and excitement. The crowd roared with excitement and thunderous applause when the announcer asked if they should bring the rodeo back again next year. The rodeo provided a great night of fun for fans of all ages.
