Excellence In Education Lincoln Daily News January 25, 2023 Page 5 We learned a bit about Charter and Magnet schools in an article by LDN writer Derek Hurley, and we received a very nice work from Rev. Jonathan Buescher, the pastor at Zion Lutheran Church and School in Mount Pulaski, who spoke very well about the importance of education that touches the spiritual aspects of education and how that is important. We kept the focus tight this year, seeking input from Elementary, Junior High and High Schools as these are the age brackets where school choice applies. We had a great report about work on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Match). We read how that schools are working to incorporate agriculture into the curriculum and efforts to bring Future Farmers of America to Junior High students. LDN Writer Angela Reiners gave us some wonderful insight as to how teachers throughout all grade levels are making the grade when it comes to working with special needs children and those within the Autism spectrum. We also asked that LDN sportswriter Teena Lowery give us a story on our LCHS Lady Railers that shows while education is key, and these young athletes are academic achievers, sports add another component of education that addresses the “whole child” methodology of modern education. We were delighted with what we were collecting and felt that we had everything to show just how great our local schools are. Then, we received a submission from Ashley Aper at Chester-East Lincoln. “One School, One Family” touches on the ultimate reason why our local schools are the best “choice” for our community, without talking about choice at all. The article talks about how the school is rallying around a teacher, a student and a family that has in recent days received some very harsh news about the health of the child.
