Page 10 Excellence In Education Lincoln Daily News January 25, 2023 An excellent education is one that cares for and develops the whole student Rev. Jonathan Buescher - Pastor at Zion Lutheran Church & School, Mount Pulaski What does a student who receives an excellent education look like to you? Is it a straight-A student with a 4.0 GPA? Is it a student who is involved in many extracurricular activities? Is it someone who has been accepted to a top school and goes on to a high-paying career? These are all wonderful goals: for our students to achieve top marks, to be involved and invested, and to move on into the working world. But at Zion Lutheran School, in Mount Pulaski, we believe there is more to an excellent education than that. Part of an excellent education is also the development of faith and good character. St. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 13, “If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.” In education that would be like saying you have a perfect report card, but you never learned to be kind. You’re the top athlete but you’re a sore winner and worse when you lose. And you get into the workforce, and you make it to the top of the ladder, because you were willing to do whatever it took to get there. Academics are very important. There are many things our students need to learn and understand to be successful citizens. Athletics and extracurricular activities are very important. Sports keep our bodies healthy, and many extracurriculars teach teamwork and cooperation. But faith is a key component as well. Through faith we are equipped with love.
