2022 Hometown HEROES Magazine LINCOLN DAILY NEWS May / June 2022 Page 3 A n ancient poem begins with the words “There are heroes a plenty, well known to fame...” This line would be speaking of some of the finest citizens here in Logan County whom we have chosen to recognize. What qualities make a person a hero? We live in a quid-pro-quo world (meaning you trade favors - this for that). A hero is motivated to give without receiving anything back, including recognition or praise. They give because that is their nature. Second of all, a hero recognizes the need without it being pointed out. They are just attuned to recognize the needs around them. And third, they usually choose to step up and be “the person.” These qualities describe the nominees we wrote about in this year’s Hometown Heroes magazine. There were some nominees who refused to be recognized and did not want to be in the magazine. But they are heroes none the less. There are heroes we wrote about who are no longer living, and so the recognition is given posthumously. And there are those heroes living and walking among us today who really deserve public recognition. And so, as a community, we recognize and celebrate the works, the achievements, and the goodness these heroes bring to our fair county. Thank you and God bless. [LDN]
