At that time, she was working as an advertising salesperson for a publication in Bloomington, while living in Lincoln. The accidental email landed in the inbox of LDN founder Jim Youngquist. While he wasn’t buying what she was selling, her delivery of her product was so impressive, that he knew she was someone he wanted to talk to about a future with LDN. Lincoln Daily News at that time was still in its “growing pains” stage. There was plenty of good news to report about the Logan County community, but with a limited number of supporters (though generous) and advertisers (also very generous), there was not enough income to meet the financial needs of the company. Her skill set came in her power to persuade advertisers to buy and her ability to produce an ad campaign or product that appealed to readers. Now, as a recently new co-owner of LDN, her knowledge of the community, her connections with people and her ability to maintain those excellent relationships with our advertisers are the most important parts of keeping the daily editions alive and well. When I say elaborate, I am not only talking about extremely beautiful and artistic, but HOURS of prep time. This recipe is one of his favorites. Here’s the note he sent with the recipe: “Here’s a recipe that more or less tracks to the one I’ve made to great success. This one’s WAY more involved but it shows you how far you can go in the decoration department. The cranberries are, however, great and I have added toasted almonds that look like fallen leaves.
