2022 Education Magazine LINCOLN DAILY NEWS February / March 2022 Page 27 New Holland-Middletown students learn through coding experiences By Mr. Clayton Rothe, NH-M N ew Holland-Middletown Elementary School District #88 has been able to purchase some new items for a Science - Technology - Engineering - Mathematics (STEM) lab. We have had the opportunity to buy sphero bolt’s with terrain parks. The spheros are programmable robots with LED lights. The terrain parks add additional challenges that can be set in many different ways. The combination allows students to sequentially learn simple to more advanced coding. These new items will both engage and challenge our students to work with robotics and coding. We are also working on revamping a room in our Junior High section to be used as a Science - Technology - Engineering - Arts - Mathematics (STEAM) room. We are hoping for continued grants that will allow us to fill out the technology and allow more hands-on experiences. Additionally, the district has started an after school Coding Club for all third through eighth graders. [Information supplied by Mr. Clayton Rothe]
