Welcome to the festival!
What single event changes sleepy little Lincoln, Ill., into an extraordinary,
exciting, event-filled, jampacked metropolis with something for everyone?
The Lincoln Art & Balloon Festival!
This festival signals the end of summer vacation with a celebration that
includes activities for the whole family. It has food, music, art, shopping for
bargains, dynamic feats of flying, cars, cooking contests, kite flying, bungee
jumping, wall climbing, bike rides, concerts, dancing, games and activities,
and more. There are events that will excite your eyes and your ears and your
tongue. This single weekend has something for everyone.
It is difficult to pinpoint the centerpiece of this growing festival: Hot air
balloons will ascend into the skies with the greatest of ease and, tethered
to the earth, glow brightly in the evenings. In an idyllic setting, exhibitors
will show their art and innovations beneath the canopy of a downtown park.
Music, singing and dancing will accompany the tasting experience of fine
area wines and brews. Champion cooks will stoke their fires and prepare their
finest entrees as they compete for a national prize. All of these events are
tremendous in themselves, but when you bring them all together in one place
at one time, you have a festival that rivals any other across the country!
In this short introduction to the festival, we have named but a few of the
activities and events that take place in two locations: downtown Lincoln and
the Logan County Airport. Please consult the schedule in this magazine and
in Lincoln Daily News for a complete listing and schedule of all the events,
because you will want to plan ahead what you want to experience.
