Page 2 2023 LOGAN COUNTY PROM LINCOLN DAILY NEWS May 2023 The 2023 high school prom season kicked off on Saturday, April 15th, with the Hartsburg-Emden High School to be the first event for the year. The prom was hosted by the Junior Class of 2024 and held at the American Legion Post 263 in Lincoln. Before the prom the attendees enjoyed a Grand March event at the high school in Hartsburg. kicks off with a remarkable Hartsburg-Emden Prom Grand March With the gymnasium completely dark, the twinkling lights of the runway from the stage to the bleachers reflected on the highly polished floor and almost looked like the attendees were walking on water as they approached the large crowd at the end of the pathway. This year there were several attendees including some handsome young men and women who went together as couples, some who were groups of friends and some who chose to go “Stag.” Among the many prom-goers there were a variety of lovely gowns and well-fitting suits and tuxedos. Perhaps the most unusual ensembles in the mix were those of the banana and the pickle. However, the two young men with their buddy walking them down the runway were wildly popular with the group, and it turned out at the end of the night, the Banana Man aka Dylan Fowler was crowned the 2023 Prom King. Asked afterward about their choice of suits, it seems that the banana and the pickle are not uncommon at Hartem. The guys have worn the costumes before and are recognizable by most of the students. At the end of the night the Prom Prince and Princess from the Junior class were

The Banana Man, Evan Fowler squatted down so the crown could be placed upon his pointed head. His queen Cassie Crabtree was called first and received her crown, then waited for Fowler so that the two could pose together for photos and to receive applause from the crowd. After the lights came up, the prom goers had the opportunity to spend time with family and friends, where there were lots of photos being taken and many memories being made. Before heading out to the American Legion, the Senior attendees were gathered for group photo, followed by a second group photo featuring the Junior class attendees. [Nila Smith]

Anderson Gymnasium Saturday evening in consideration of the windy conditions, and threat that rain could come to the community before the event was completed. This is the second year that the LCHS Prom Grand March has been moved inside due to weather. Even though the march was not outside on the lawn of the Logan County Courthouse, it was a lovely event with a stunning group of young men and women participating. More than 200 prom goers began their night with the march. Among the guys and gals, there was a huge variety of wardrobes. No two gowns were alike, though the colors of pink, blue and black did dominate. There were several guy/gal combinations that went down the aisle, but there were also more than a few gal-pals who went as a group, and guys who opted to “go stag” for the evening. But the guys did not dominate in the “go stag” scenario as a few of the ladies also chose to take in the prom independent of a companion.

Page 14 2023 LOGAN COUNTY PROM LINCOLN DAILY NEWS May 2023 The march was scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. but spectators started arriving long before, and by start time, there was hardly a seat left in the house. Proud parents and other family members along with family friends and fellow students were there to make some noise when their favorite prom attendee was introduced. Jim Williams manned the fog machine, and as in many past years, Joe Ryan served as the emcee, introducing everyone, as they made their way through a lovely white draped trellis down an aisle of lush green ferns and florals provided by Ace Hardware. Once again this year, the grand march was coordinated by Kathie Williams of Small Town Creations and WLCN Radio. Ken Richert provided the sound system and music for the event.

The march entrants would then walk through the mist toward the center of the gymnasium. Loud cheers would draw their attention and they would smile and wave at those who had come to cheer for them. A quick stop for the cameras and then off the floor so the next attendees could have their moment in the spotlight. After the march the prom goers were ready to head out for the rest of their night where they would enjoy “A Night in Rome” at the 2023 LCHS Junior Senior Prom. [Nila Smith]

Page 36 2023 LOGAN COUNTY PROM LINCOLN DAILY NEWS May 2023 On Saturday afternoon, some may have wondered what the weather was going to do in the next few hours. The sky was heavy with clouds, temperatures were cooler than one might have hoped for on a May Saturday, and the wind was whipping about blowing sometimes to the point that long hair went flying into the air, and the idea of a long dress brought pictures of the wind grabbing the hems and not letting go. Yet, as the day evolved into the evening, the winds settled down quite a bit, though not completely. By 4:30 p.m. the clouds were parting enough that while still present, the sun was peeking through from time to time, and with the sun came slightly warmer temperatures. In total, it ended up being a perfect evening for a Prom Grand March on the lawn of the historic Mount Pulaski Courthouse. 2023 Mount Pulaski High School Prom Grand March takes a fresh approach at the courthouse

2023 LOGAN COUNTY PROM LINCOLN DAILY NEWS May 2023 Page 37 Guests started arriving early parents, grandparents, extended relatives, good friends, and members of the community filled the lawn alongside prom attendees who were there early to mingle with those guests and compare wardrobes with each other. This year, the prom march took a new turn, a turn around the corner of the courthouse and then onward to the base of the steps. There was no march through the courthouse as in past years, and the fresh new approach to the march was, well…refreshing. As attendees’ names were called, there were singles - going stag, pairs, and even one group of three that drew a lot of attention from the audience. The three guys in their baby blue tuxedos with their black bow ties and shades were very well received by the crowd. Once again at this prom the ladies were stunning, in beautiful gowns and no two were alike. The men expressed themselves well

Page 38 2023 LOGAN COUNTY PROM LINCOLN DAILY NEWS May 2023 through their wardrobe and their accessories, from cool shades to a black cowboy hat. At the end of the introduction of the prom attendees, the 2023 prom court was introduced, and the king and queen were named. The 2023 Prom Queen was Kate Beckers with Gavin Smith crowned as the Prom King. The announcement was met with loud cheers for both from the audience as well as the other members of the 2023 Prom Court. After a few posed photos, the event was called finished, but it seemed no one was in any big hurry to leave. Friends teamed up together, parents swooned over their dressedup teenagers and plenty of kind words were flowing as the attendees of the 2023 Prom Grand March prepared to head out for the main event.
