Before the fair began...
For many 4-H’ers the Logan County Fair is the first big event of the year as
they all work to finish projects, groom animals and polish their showmanship
abilities in the hopes of winning superior ratings and gaining a spot in State
Fair Competition.
At the same time, there are several youth whose preparation and aspirations of
State Fair competition began even before the fair.
This year, shows and exhibits began at the first part of July. Here in
Logan County on the 9th of the month, culinary exhibitors did their food
demonstrations. On July 11, the Food & Nutrition, and Home & Family shows
were held at the Logan County Extension Office.
On Saturday July 27, the 4-H dog show was held at the Logan County
Fairgrounds, and on Monday all the 4-H Department W exhibits were set up
and judged in the 4-H exhibit barns at the fairgrounds.
Although all of these events technically took place before the fair began, they
are still an integral part of the local 4-H organization and more than deserving
of attention in this year’s annual Lincoln Daily News 2013 Fair Magazine.
So, before we begin Tuesday’s coverage, let’s take a look at what took place
“Before the fair began.”
