2012 Art and Balloon Festival
In a quiet corner of the Logan County Airport,
kids flew themselves!
Out at the Logan County Airport, Heritage In Flight Museum offered a unique opportunity for
the youngsters. Parents and their children stood in an often-long line for kids to get the chance
to fly an aircraft simulator.
Rick Naugle, skilled as a carpenter, and in aircraft repairs and painting, spent many hours
making the apparatus work after the museum acquired it several years ago. Naugle refinished
and refurbished the apparatus a little over a year ago, and it has since served many youth for
their first flight.
Parents clearly enjoyed watching and giving their young prodigy pilots tips as much as the
kids enjoyed the flying.
The simulator functions just like a real plane: Push forward and the nose goes down; pull
back and the nose goes up. Press the rudder right and the nose turns right; same for left. Turn
the flight controls right, and the right aileron goes up, the left down, and the plane banks right.
