2012 Art and Balloon Festival
Library basement bursting at the seams, ready for
hungry book buyers
The Lincoln Public Library is having its annual book sale during the Lincoln Art & Balloon
Festival. The sale begins Saturday morning at 9 and runs until 5 p.m. in the basement of the
historic Carnegie Building.Lincoln Art & Balloon Festival.
Among the most popular of these are the Friday and Saturday night balloon launches and glows
at the Logan County Airport.
If there are any books left to be
sold, there will be a second session on
Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 pm.
The library basement is filled with
over 5,000 books to be sold on a first-
come, first-served basis. New this year
is a special children’s section, located
along the north wall of the basement,
with a large supply of books donated by
Chester-East Lincoln School. Tables and
the space under them are crammed with
books.
The price for all books is a buck-a-
bag for as many books as can be placed
in one shopping bag.
Richard Sumrall, Lincoln Public
Library director, gives special thanks to
the Lincoln IGA for once again donating
the shopping bags. The library has been
doing the book sale for over 20 years,
and Lincoln IGA has been donating the
bags for all of those fundraisers.
According to Sumrall, at each year’s
sale the basement is filled with book
shoppers, beginning at the opening and
running throughout Saturday.
All of the proceeds from the event
are used to purchase new books for the
library.
